Name - Richard formally, but I actually go by Rich.

Job Role - I am the Screen Maker at The Clever Baggers and I am also an Embellishment Printer

Tell us about you – This is where I come unstuck, because what can I say about me... I am an amateur radio, anything tech and computers. I really like taking things apart, but not necessarily putting them back together again, sometimes I will put them back together, but other times I take them apart and think stuff it and put it in the bin.

Activities / Hobbies – Technical hobbies like satellites and that sort of stuff, I listen to radio amateur radio satellites. Like CB used to be, rather than it being short distance, I can talk to people on the other side of the world.

Favourite meal to indulge yourself in? – This is a really tough one, I think it would be a Spaghetti Bolognaise, or nothing too spicy, but really I think it just has to be a Spag Bol.

Favourite Film – So many of them, it’s hard to narrow it down, it’s probably something like Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, I really love British Gangsters movies, like Snatch. Anything with Jason Statham, Vinnie Jones, that sort of stuff, that’s my kind of films.

About you in the company – I basically take images from the studio department, transfer them onto screens so they can print them onto tote bags and tea towels etc on our screen-printing machines. That’s it in a nutshell really.
I take the posi (short for the positive of the image the customer wants printed), from studio and assess the artwork and design to decide which screen mesh would be best. I then cover that screen in emulsion, line up the posi on an unexposed screen in the correct position ready to expose the positive onto the carefully selected screen, it’s then exposed for however long it needs. After it has been exposed, I wash out the screen ensuring all the design has come through. Then Bob’s your uncle you have a screen that’s ready for printing once it has been dried. Start to finish it can take about 10 minutes. The Embellishment printer side of my role refers to printing onto products using our digital printer and our heat press. I really like seeing all the different artworks and designs customers want printed and in my role I get to see them all essentially.

What do you like best about working for Clever Baggers? – It’s a relaxed atmosphere here, everybody is happy and gets along, some places you work there is usually one that upsets the apple cart, but here we’re pretty fortunate to not have that, and I get on with everyone.

Favourite product? – I’ve got to admit I really like the black thick canvas shoppers we sell, with the gusset, makes it a nice box-y type bag

Plain or Printed? – ️Hmm, I'd say printed, it’s nice to see the designs and there’s some that I’d like to have myself.
